Naperville Riverwalk Foundation

Mission Statement

To educate, inform, and implement strategies that will benefit the Naperville Riverwalk.

In 1997, the Riverwalk 2000 campaign raised more than $650,000 for upgrades and enhancements along a 1/2 mile extension from the Washington Street Bridge to Hillside Road.  During that fund-raising effort, committee members recognized the need for an ongoing commitment to generate funds for the future and long-term goals of the Riverwalk.

Plans were set in motion by the Riverwalk Commission to set up a foundation.  On September 23, 1997, the State of Illinois granted status for a not-for-profit corporation called Naperville Riverwalk Foundation.

Who Manages the Foundation?

The Riverwalk Foundation is managed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of one member of the Naperville City Council, one member of the Naperville Park District, and one member of the Riverwalk Commission. The board is to oversee the receipt and distribution of funds and other resources that shall be used for educational programs and projects that enhance the entire Riverwalk along the DuPage River east of the Jefferson Street Bridge to Hillside Road.

How does the Foundation work?

The Foundation serves as a vehicle for obtaining financial support for maintenance, enhancements, special project, etc., to supplement the the ongoing annual commitments of the City of Naperville and the Naperville Park District.

How can I help?

Your tax-deductible gift to the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation will help enhance and maintain every element along the existing brick pathway.  Your contribution will support a longstanding tradition of community spirit in Naperville:  A spirit of collective participation which builds secure property values, a thriving economy and wonderful place to call home for your business or residence

Cash gifts

If your cash donation represents a memorial or honor gift, please indicate the necessary information for appropriate acknowledgement.

Securities, Real Estate and Insurance

Gifts of appreciated securities, real estate, paid life insurance policies, etc., represent an excellent alternative to gifts made from current income.  To make a gift of securities, please contact us via e-mail or call the Accounting Manager of the Riverwalk Foundation at  630/420-3073.

Planned gifts and living trusts

Options that preserve current income, yet leave a generous legacy, include naming the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation as the beneficiary of an Individual Retirement Account (IRA).  Living trusts, annuities, and other deferred , future gifts create many opportunities to leave tax -exempt gifts to the Riverwalk Foundation which is a 501 (c) (3).

Recognition

All individuals, families and businesses who support our mission through financial gifts will receive recognition.

To discuss plans for a special memorial along the Riverwalk,  please contact the City of Naperville at (630) 305-5984.

Please remember....

From its inception, the Naperville Riverwalk exclusively has been a product of local dollars, almost half of which have come from voluntary donation.  All levels of giving toward the enhancement of the Naperville Riverwalk are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support!
