In
1997, the Riverwalk 2000 campaign raised more than $650,000 for upgrades
and enhancements along a 1/2 mile extension from the Washington Street
Bridge to Hillside Road. During that fund-raising effort, committee
members recognized the need for an ongoing commitment to generate funds
for the future and long-term goals of the Riverwalk.
Plans
were set in motion by the Riverwalk Commission to set up a
foundation. On September 23, 1997, the State of Illinois granted
status for a not-for-profit corporation called Naperville Riverwalk
Foundation.
Who
Manages the Foundation?
The Riverwalk Foundation is managed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of one member of the Naperville City Council, one member of the Naperville Park District, and one member of the Riverwalk Commission. The board is to oversee the receipt and distribution of funds and other resources that shall be used for educational programs and projects that enhance the entire Riverwalk along the DuPage River east of the Jefferson Street Bridge to Hillside Road.
How
does the Foundation work?
The
Foundation serves as a vehicle for obtaining financial support for
maintenance, enhancements, special project, etc., to supplement the the
