How much do you love the Riverwalk?

Every jaunt on the Riverwalk starts off with a single step, and, as plans to renovate the Naperville attraction start to come to light, it's time to hear from the folks who take those steps.

On May 25, a "State of the Riverwalk" breakfast and public forum will be held to get community input on the planned first phase of renovations and to talk about the amenity in general.

The continental breakfast will be held in the downstairs meeting rooms of the Municipal Center at 400 S. Eagle St.

City Council members, city staff, Park District staff and commissioners, members of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, Chamber of Commerce members, the Riverwalk Commission, Riverwalk Foundation, past Riverwalk donors and more were invited. The public also is invited to attend and share in the discussion, said Riverwalk administrator Jan Erickson.

"We're looking for folks who care about the Riverwalk," she said.

Those at the breakfast will be able to take a look at a rendering of the first phase of renovations, which will enhance the area near Dandelion Foundation and east and, more importantly, will strengthen the bulkhead walls along that portion of the river. Earlier this year, Riverwalk Commission members were told that the walls were in disrepair, which could lead to problems with the walkways it supports.

"(The breakfast is) really a reality check to get our hands around phase one," said Stephanie Penick, Riverwalk Foundation member and past president.
