Look out for trolls!

Since March 2002, the friendly Riverwalk Troll has served as the mascot for the Naperville Riverwalk. At one time, there were three Riverwalk Trolls who helped to collect tolls to the Moser Bridges during fundraising events to celebrate the Riverwalk for all seasons. They claimed to live under the bridges. During the Riverwalk Troll Picnic in June 2002, they welcomed folks to stroll the site of Fredenhagen Park as architectural renderings were introduced, showing how the gateway park would be developed on the site of the former Cock Robin Restaurant.

So far, Riverwalk Troll I and Riverwalk Troll II have retired and moved to warmer climates. Life under the bridge can be cold and damp, they said.

The Riverwalk Foundation is grateful that Riverwalk Troll III has stayed to stroll the path, enjoying every opportunity to share the spirit of creativity and vision with youngsters along the way.

Riverwalk Troll I and Riverwalk Troll II on the Summer Solstice in 2002

Celebrating the Riverwalk for all seasons, Riverwalk Troll III took some time out to relax during his greeting duties at the Riverwalk Fine Art Fair in September 2006.  When The Riverwalk Troll is on duty, his pouch is filled with tiny good luck trolls that he hands out to youngsters who enjoy his gift of gab.

School District 203 teachers show the Riverwalk Troll how to cut paper snowflakes for a Winter Solstice event at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.

Riverwalk Commissioner Frank Allston, left, watches as Girl Scouts sign up to volunteer their services at the 2002 Spring Spruce Up.  During the annual event, the Riverwalk Troll I made his debut.

Riverwalk Troll II especially enjoyed the Summer Solstice events that included Municipal Band Concerts and star gazing along the community's "crown jewel."  Recently, Troll II hung up his Riverwalk heart to spend his winters in warmer climates, mindful that folks in Naperville celebrate the Riverwalk for all seasons.

Riverwalk Troll III enjoyed talking with children during the Riverwalk Fine Art Fair.

During Rotary Oktoberfest a few years ago, Troll II participated in a yodeling contest with Johnny Wagner, of the Johnny Wagner Band.
